Carty is one of the most successful coaches ever at SHS.  In addition he is the father of HOF inductees, Kevin Jr., Ryan, and Sean having had the pleasure of coaching all three at SHS.  Kevin has been in the coaching profession for 36 years including 21 at the college level.  Kevin is a NJSIAA Hall of Fame Coach and has won numerous Coach of The Year honors.

He was an assistant coach at William Paterson for two years, Montclair State for three years, and The College of New Jersey for one year prior to coaching at Somerville.  He was an assistant coach at Rutgers from 1984 to 1990 before going to Morehead State.  Prior to those experiences in college, he was the head coach at Don Bosco Prep and Verona High School.

At SHS from 1994 to 2006 he guided The Ville to a 92-42 record.  In his first season as head coach he took a team that was previously 0-9 to 8-3 winning the 1994 Central Jersey Group II State Championship versus Manasquan in Giants Stadium.  He won seven Skyland Conference Championships and was in the sectional playoffs in 1994, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, and 2005.

He Developed outstanding mentor relationships with his players who have gone on to successful careers in college including more than 30 players who received full NCAA scholarship grant offers.  His son, Kevin, is a HOF’er and was previously the head football coach at Bound Brook High School and now serves as Head Coach at Hillsborough High School.
