Leon was one of the finest and smartest linemen ever to play the game at SHS. He instinctively knew what to do and where to be as he played both ways on offense and defense. A superbly conditioned athlete he was named to the 2nd team on the Somerville High School All-Time 50 year team from 1889 to 1939. He was narrowly nosed out for the top spot by fellow HOF inductee Bill Albe.
Leon went on to a stellar college career as well as eventually earning a law degree. He became a judge and was one of Somerville’s finest citizens. He was such a talented football player that the students named a cheer after him that was called “The Gerofsky Cheer”.
