Bob was a dedicated, versatile athlete who excelled in football, baseball and wrestling at SHS. He was leading halfback on the 1953 football team that was the first undefeated, untied football team in SHS history. Besides being an outstanding athlete, he stood out as a leader in the classroom and in student government. He was Class President at SHS.
Lusardi went on to establish an exceptional career record at Rutgers University where he won three varsity letters in football as a two-way halfback. He was also President of his Rutgers Class. In his honor, the Rutgers Class of 1958 established the Robert Lusardi Memorial Scholarship Fund for a football/scholar.
In 1978, he received the Ernest T. Gardner Class of ‘49 Rutgers Award for distinguished service to Rutgers University and the community. There is a Robert G. Lusardi Memorial Scholarship awarded to an outstanding leader, scholar and athlete annually at SHS. Bob was one of the finest individuals ever to walk the halls of SHS.
