As the first recipient of the Yohn Medal as the outstanding senior all around athlete, “OX” won eleven varsity letters in football, basketball and track. For a while, he held the country record in the 440 run and the discus. He joins his brother, Ben, in the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
“Ox” was awarded a full Athletic Scholarship to NYU where he played varsity football and basketball. They were NY Metropolitan Champs in 1940. He represented his class on the NY Athletic Council.
“Ox” enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor in 1941 and finished college at Rutgers after the War. He played basketball and football at Jacksonville Naval Air Base competing with All Americans and professionals. They won the Southern Naval Air Base League in 1942.
