Sam Yohn, cornerstone of Somerville High School, was the Athletic Director for many years. Sam holds the world record for drop kicks, sixty nine consecutive, completed at his high school alma-mater, Lancaster High School.
At Franklin and Marshall College, Sam made thirty-five consecutive drop kicks, still a collegiate record. His accumulation of 104 drop kicks at F&M is a third record. Sam was inducted into the F&M Hall of Fame with a total of twelve varsity records.
Sam officiated in the 1955 Pan American Games as a top sports official. He was prominent as a high school and college official, leading the State organization.
Sam guided the fortunes and touched lives of many young men who had the experience of being in his physical education class. He coached the football team for several years. Sam served at SHS for over 40 years, a period of time that will probably never be equalled.
Sam died in 1978. Allie, his widow, lives in Bridgewater.
