Sam was selected First Team All State Quarterback in 1954. He was four time District Wrestling Champ and State Champ in 1953. At Rutgers, Sam was Captain of the wrestling team. He was Eastern Intercollegiate Champ at 167 lbs in 1958.

On the football team he was a QB/Linebacker. He received the George Cronin Award in 1959 awarded to the Most Improved Player.

Presently, Sam serves as Assistant Superintendent in the Bridgewater-Raritan School District where he had also been Principal for the past twenty years. In addition, Sam currently serves as the Chief Wrestling Official for the State of New Jersey, a position he was awarded in 1982. He is the NJ Wrestling Rules Interpreter and the Official Assignor for all officials for districts, sectionals, regionals and state tournaments. Furthermore, Sam is a member of the National Federation of Wrestling Rules 1993-1997.

Sam and his wife Rita live in Somerville.
